 Rehearsals and performances

YHCG was founded by a group of local musicians from Tamale in 1985 and has been a part of the cultural activities in Ghana for more than twenty years. One of the members from these days, namely Dr. Habib Chester Iddrisu is now a Ph.d. in African Music from North Western University, Department of Performance Studies, Chicago.

The group is practically a dance- and drumming school, where all who has the interest, can meet regularly and are serious, are welcome. The group rehearse and perform dances from all over the country as well as contemporary dances. The group often request other artist from other parts of the country to come and do guest-instruction in order to develop the group and increase our repertoire. The group is specialized in traditional dances from The Northern Region of Ghana, and we have several contemporary dances in our program too.

YHCG has more than 30 members and is one of the strongest performing groups in the northern part of Ghana. The group is often requested to perform at different occasions.
